UPDATE: RESTORE-A-ROAD CAMPAIGN

Since the public meeting on 12 April, representatives of Road Users Association have met with Zinara and City of Harare (CoH) to secure an allocation of materials for residents to restore your roads. We are requesting 50 tons of asphalt for each of Harare’s 26 districts. Unfortunately, they are unable to provide even 30 tons for the city …
The shortage of asphalt is attributed to financial issues between Zinara and CoH, CoH’s existing production equipment is out of action, and the recently purchased equipment has not yet arrived. RUA shares your disappointment but we are lobbying government until they repair the roads or make the materials available for residents to carry out restoration. To this end, RUA is talking to Zinara and CoH, is attempting to secure a meeting with the Minister of Transport, and we have written to President ED Mnangagwa on issues affecting motorists, including road infrastructure.

Options available to R-A-R Road Champions in the meanwhile:

BULK PURCHASE: Residents with sufficient funds can buy Stable 60 and asphalt from registered suppliers. We understand Stable 60 (Slow set Bitumen Emulsion) is available for $200/drum and asphalt for $230/ton.

SMALL PACKS: 25kg packs of pothole repair materials are available at some retailers, with more retailers planning on stocking the product. Prices are around $20/25kg pack, with coverage ranging from 0,5 m2 to 1,0 m2 per pack, depending on the manufacturer.

RUA will shortly publish a list of pothole repair products and retailers, to assist Road Champions procure materials whilst we motivate government stakeholders to make a plan for residents.

With appreciation for your community spirit,

Warm regards,

Road Users Association

  • When are the Contractors responsible for the resurfacing of Eastern Road, Harare Drive from Enterprise to Drew, Enterprise Road, Wallis Ave and Beeston Ave; going to COMPLETE their contractural obligations and paint the required road markings onto these roads?
If Bitumen World can do it on Drew Road and the new section of Harare Drive from Borrowdale Road to Gaydon Road, before they re-opened these to traffic use, what is delaying the others? Is it purely a lack of contractural oversight by the City of Harare Roads Engineering department, or lack of qualified Engineers over-seeing these works?
Surely ALL Road Re-habilitation Contracts have the same specifications and standards for work done and finishes required!!
